Joseph M. "Mike" Byrne passed away suddenly at the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett on Wednesday, August 8, 2012. He was only 59 years of age. Mike was born in Malden on September 24, 1952 to the late Joseph & Patricia (Convery) Byrne. Mike was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School in 1970, graduated from Dean Jr. College in 1972 and earned a degree in respiratory therapy from North Shore Community College. Mr. Byrne worked as a respiratory therapist at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center for many years. Mike was an avid golfer and a former member of the Beverly Golf Club. But most of all he was a wonderful and caring son, brother and uncle who will be sorely missed by all who loved him. He was the loving son of the late Joseph & Patricia (Convery) Byrne. Devoted brother of Juliana M. Lemp of Newbury, Maria Hutchings, Patrice Wharem & her husband Dave Dutil, Timothy G. Byrne, all of whom live in NH and Vincent R. Byrne & his wife Joanne of Saugus. Caring & very close friend Lyn Sweesey. Also survived by his beloved nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday August 14th at 9AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Monday from 4-7PM.
