Joseph A. "Tony" Canzaniello, of Melrose, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on Jan. 19, 2010 at the age of 87. Tony was born & raised in the North End of Boston, was a graduate of Boston English High School and went on to earn his degree in Music Education from Boston Conservatory of Music. Tony served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 387th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion. He and his fellow troopers were among the multiple waves to storm the beaches during the Invasion of Normandy and he was a Purple Heart recipient. Tony spent 6 months in England recovering from his wounds. Tony worked as a Clerical supervisor at the State House in Boston for 28 years and also worked for Mass Save Energy Company in Waltham for several years. His passion in life was always music. Tony was a professional Trumpet player for most of his life. He was a member the American Federation of Musicians, Boston Musician's Union, Lynn Local Musician's Union, where he was also a board member. Tony was a member of the Melrose Kiwanis, Melrose Bowling League and the Church of the Incarnation for many years. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann T. (Vuolo) Canzaniello for 48 years. Loving father of Joanne M. Hirschfeld & her husband Peter of Norwood and Susan A. Galluzzo & her husband John of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of William J. & Jill A. Hirschfeld of Norwood and John Robert Anthony Galluzzo of Melrose. Caring brother of the late Dr. Vincent Canzanello and Mary Quaglieri. Brother in law of Stephen Vuolo of FL and the late Alphonse Vuolo. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, Jan. 25th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-6PM.
