Obituary

Joseph D. Capuano passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on January 8, 2014. He was 83 years of age. Joe was born in Melrose on September 4, 1930 to the late Lorato & Josephine (Cardillo) Capuano. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School in 1948 and has been a lifelong resident. Joe entered the US National Guard in 1953 and served his country with pride during the Korean War. Mr. Capuano owned and operated Capuano Construction, which he started in 1956 and worked for 43 years before retiring in 1999. Joe was well known as a talented mason working in Melrose, Boston and the surrounding communities. Mr. Capuano enjoyed summering at Bow Lake in New Hampshire for the past 53 years and enjoyed wintering in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for 25 years. He was a great supporter of the City of Melrose thru donations made to help the local sports teams or the community as a whole. Joe was a member of Incarnation Church in Melrose, a lifetime member of the Melrose Fish and Game; which he helped build, was a member of the Rotondi Bowling League & Incarnation Bowling League and had a passion for work & fishing. But most of all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished the times spent with family. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Phyllis A. (Terenzio) Capuano. Devoted father of Larry Capuano & his wife Karen, Jane Kendall & her husband Robert and Maria MacInnes & her husband Bill all of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Joseph & Alyssa Capuano, Robbie & Natalie Kendall and Jill & Kaitlyn MacInnes. Loving brother of Carol D'Errico of Lakeville and Eleanor Schmidt of Melrose. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday January 13th at 8:45AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose at 10:00AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2:00-6:00PM. Interment with military honors at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made in Joe's name to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor West, Brookline, MA 02445.
