Joseph E. Correia Jr. passed away at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. He was 83 years of age. Mr. Correia was born in Cambridge on July 15, 1926 to the late Joseph E. & Gloria M. (Martins) Correia. He was raised in Cambridge, graduated from Ringe Technical High School in Cambridge and then entered the United States Marines at the age of 17. Joe was a proud US Marine Corps Veteran serving in Iwo Jima, was a purple heart recipient and a former member of the Melrose DAV. Mr. Correia lived in Somerville for several years and has been a Melrose resident for over 60 years. He worked for the US Post Office in the special delivery section in Boston, Malden, Stoneham and the Chelsea IMC, retiring in 1991. Joseph was a devoted husband; father and grandfather who cherished spending time with his family. Beloved husband of the late Carmella C. (Ricci) Correia. Loving father of Donna (Correia) Dapolito of Lynnfield, Joseph A. Correia & his wife Susan and Carla (Correia) McAree, all of Melrose. Devoted grandfather of Joseph A. Correia Jr., Michael C. Correia & Christian R. McAree, all of Melrose. Brother of the late Belmira Campanella. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Visiting hours at the Gately Funeral Home, on Sunday Nov. 1st, from 4:00-8:00PM. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, Nov.2nd at 9AM. A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph will be celebrated at The Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Followed by interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose with full military honors. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
