Joseph E. Fennell passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital, on Friday, August 7, 2009. He was 82 years of age. Mr. Fennell was born in Boston on March 23, 1927 to the late Harold & Emily (Clarke) Fennell. Joseph was raised in Revere; attended Revere schools and entered the US Navy at the age of 17. Mr. Fennell served in the US Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946. After his discharge he moved to Florida for a few years and then to NJ where he worked as a site tour bus driver. While working in New Jersey, Joe met his wife of 50 years, Donna (Thompson) Fennell and lived in Ventinor, NJ for over 50years. After Donna passed away he moved back to the Boston area and has been living in Malden the past 5 years. Mr. Fennel worked as a draw bridge operator for the State of New Jersey for 30 years. He had the gift of gab, a great sense of humor and liked to dance. Joseph also enjoyed fishing and the horse races. He was the husband of the late Donna (Thompson) Fennell. Brother of Emily A. Whalen of Melrose, Paul T. Fennell & his wife Ila of Newton, NH and the late H. William, Richard C. & George F. Fennell. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, Aug. 10th from 4-7PM. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing, NJ on Wed. 8/12 at 11AM.
