Joseph P. Greelish, of Marshfield, formerly of Melrose, passed from us on the evening of Nov. 25, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer, he was 81 years old. Joe was born and raised in Melrose, where he and his wife Beatrice V. (Billard), made their home for 40 years. After her death in 1988, Joe retired to Marshfield making Brant Rock his home. He was known for his warmth & energy. Joe was a tireless worker whether it was business related or recreational. He loved cooking and feeding family & friends. Joe could fix anything and spent a good part of his time doing just that for anyone who asked. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII. After returning from the war, he was the owner & operator of Joe's Express Trucking Co in Melrose for 10 years. Joe worked as a supervisor for the Polaroid Corp. for over 20 years before his retirement. He was a member and past Post Commander at the V.F.W. Harold O'Young Post #2394 in Melrose and also volunteered at the Marshfield Senior Center. Joe was the loving father of Patricia A. Banda & her husband James of Wilmington, Michael J. Greelish of Malden, Peter J. Greelish & his wife Nadine of Haverhill and the late Tamara A. (Greelish) DiGiovanni. Father in law of Mark DiGiovanni of Beverly. Cherished grandfather of Beatrice V. Banda & Brian M. DiGiovanni. Caring brother of John Greelish of Saugus, Barbara O'Brien of Melrose, Thomas Greelish of Saugus, James Greelish of Barnstead, NH, Kevin Greelish of Ipswich & the late Eileen (Greelish) Butt & Mary (Greelish) Foley. Longtime companion of Carol A. Clements of Dedham. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Mon. Nov. 29th at 8AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM. Family & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sun. 2-6PM. Interment is private.
