Obituary

Joseph L. Hartnett died at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital Nov.3rd after a short illness. He was born in Melrose, raised in Malden, graduated from Malden High School, Worcestor Academy and Boston University. Joseph was assistant director of Employment Operations for the Commonwealth of Massachusettts for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He has been living in Melrose for the past 29 years, was a member of the Melrose Elks and the Inner Club at Mt. Hood Golf Course. He worked at Mt. Hood Golf Course as a starter the past 10yrs and had served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Joseph was the husband of Ann M. (Mazza) Hartnett. Father of Michael L. Hartnett of Everett and Mark S. Hartnett & his wife Robin of Revere. Brother of John Hartnett of CT, David Hartnett of Stoneham and Roberta Preshong of Saugus. Grandfather of Mark J. & Luke S. Hartnett. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Wed. Nov. 6th at 8AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Tues. 4-8PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis House 39 Boylston St. Boston 02158. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose.
