Joseph V. "Joe" Maranto, of Melrose, died at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield on Oct. 20, 2016 at the age of 84. Joe was born & raised in the West End of Boston and attend Boston Schools. Joe served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War receiving a Bronze Star. After returning from Korea, He resided in Melrose for 52 years and was the Co-owner of the Cambridge Printing Company for 40 years before his retirement. Joe was a member of the Westside Social Club in Wakefield and the Wakefield Bowling League for several years. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife Edith on cruises to Bahamas, Niagara Falls and weekend getaways. Joe loved watching sports, his wife's Italian cooking and spending his time with his children and grandchildren. He was the beloved husband of the late Edith J. (Cilibrasi) Maranto for 54 years. Loving father of Janice Scolaro & her husband Salvatore of Melrose, David Maranto, Thomas Maranto & his partner Chris Duff, all of Wakefield. Cherished grandfather of Allyson & her husband Donald, Nicholas and Tyler. Great grandfather of Olivia and Hunter. Father in law of Karen Maranto of Lowell. Caring brother of Anna Pipitone of Methuen and the late Margaret Gentile, Jenny Grillo and Josephine Maranto. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield on Wednesday, Oct. 26th at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joe's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
