Joseph E. Gene Marchand passed away at the EPOCH Senior Healthcare Center of Melrose on Sunday, Nov. 12th, 2006. He was 99 years old. Mr. Marchand was born in Louisdale, Nova Scotia, Canada to the late John & Madeline (Sampson) Marchand. He was one of eleven children. He moved to the United States in 1929, at the age of 22 & worked for Eastern Gas & Fuel of Philadelphia for 30 years. Later moving to Boston, he worked for H.K. Porter of Somerville for 15 years as a toolmaker. Pops also lived in Melrose and was an active member of the Milano Senior Center. He was a member of the Franco-American Club of Everett, MA. & enjoyed playing cribbage. Husband of the late Margaret (Marchand). Loving father of Dolores Doherty, wife of the late Robert Doc Doherty of Melrose & M. Jeanne Furey, wife of the late Ken Furey of Amesbury. Grandfather of 4 & great grandfather of 7. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Wed., Nov. 15th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM.
