Obituary

Joseph J. Markelionis died at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Sunday May 20th at the age of 80 after a brief illness. He was born and raised in So Boston, graduated from Brighton High in 1937 and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree at Boston StateTeacher's College. He served in the Air Corps during WWII as a bombardier and navigator. Joseph was a machinist and specimen tester at the Watertown Arsenal for 20yrs until he retired in 1978. He had lived in Brighton for 10 yrs prior to moving to Melrose in 1957. Joseph was active in the Lt Norman Prince VFW Post #1506, Melrose Elks, Lodge # 1031, Malden Moose, Eastside Athletic Assoc.,the Boston State Alumni Assoc., and St Mary's Church in Melrose. Joseph & his wife Vincentia have been married for 52 yrs. He was the husband of Vincentia L. ( Korklen ) Markelionis. Father of Dennis Markelionis of Melrose and the late Paul J. Markeionis. Brother of Stella Mockus of FL and Martha Puzinas of Quincy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W Foster St, Melrose on Wednesday May 23 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, corner of Myrtle & Herbert Sts., Melrose at 9 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 - 8 PM. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Cancer Research % Mass General Hospital, Developement Office - Suite 600, Boston, 02114.
