Joseph L. McGuire, Jr. March 1, 1940 - August 10, 2026
Joseph L. McGuire, Jr, of Peabody, MA, died peacefully on August 10, 2026. He was born in Cambridge on March 1, 1940 to the late Edna and Joseph Leo McGuire, Sr. He was raised in Cambridge and Somerville, MA and graduated from Don Bosco Technical High School in Boston, MA in 1958. He proudly served in the United States Military Reserves,
Joe was the beloved husband of his wife Linda McGuire for over 27 years. He was a loving father to son, Joseph McGuire and wife Marlene of Manchester, NH, daughter, Mary Turner and husband Scott of Milton, MA, predeceased son, Steven McGuire of Melrose, MA, predeceased daughter, Michelle McGuire of Wakefield, MA, daughter, Maureen McGuire of Melrose, MA, stepson, Jimmy Gallo and wife Cathy of Effingham, NH. The cherished Grandpa of Courtney Turner, Sydney Turner, Jason Turner, Zachary McGuire, Joey McGuire, Kaiya McGuire, Jessica Adelman and husband Kyle, Samantha Massood and husband Travis, James Gallo and wife Ashley. Great grandfather to Carter, Ellie, Ronan, Luca, Charlotte, and Mila. Also survived by brother Robert McGuire, sister Claire McGuire, and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Joe spent his 40+ year career as a printer for WRKO Radio, Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare and Mellon Bank and retired in 2015. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Linda to Hampton Beach, Lake George, NY and the Caribbean. He loved his home in Peabody where he created countless memories at holiday celebrations and pool party cookouts with family and friends. Joe was an amazing athlete and ran 18 marathons in his lifetime. He was obsessed with fitness and worked out at his local gym into his 80’s. He was a proud Bostonian and loved cheering on the Celtics, Red Sox and New England Patriots. Throughout his life Joe loved his many dogs. Joe is survived by his beloved shih tzu Lucy, and enjoyed countless walks with her on the bike trail near his home. He was extremely passionate about tending to his lawn and flowers in his beautiful yard. Joe was one of the original founders of the Somerville City Club where he was a life time member, and was also proud lifetime member of the Melrose Elks, Melrose MA, and served three terms as an exalted ruler.
His greatest joys in life were his wife Linda and spending time with his beautiful family.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 25th, 2026, at St. Mary’s Church, 4 Herbert St., Melrose. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 24th, 2025 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose.
