Joseph F. Pellegrino of Somerville, formerly of Wellesley, passed away at the Somerville Hospital on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the age of 91. Born in Boston on May 14, 1916 to Angelo & Maria Pellegrino, he was raised in the South End and graduated from Watertown High School. Joes love of music, both playing and writing, earned him a degree from Boston Universitys School of Music in 1949. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He continued his passion for music throughout his entire life, even more so after his retirement from the Postal Service, for which he worked as a clerk for 33 years. He was a Union Musician, a member of the Postal Service Marching Band, The Shriners Swing Band & the Retired Mens Band of Wakefield. He played the violin, saxophone, clarinet, flute and keyboards. He also enjoyed reading and puttering around his house. Mr. Pellegrino lived in Wellesley for 50 years and Somerville the last 3 years. He was the devoted husband of the late Mildred (Robertson) Pellegrino. Loving father of Paul J. Pellegrino & his wife Paula of Melrose & the late Kathleen Hall & her husband Robert of Charlton, MA. Cherished grandfather of Maria Pumyea of Woburn, Nicholas Pellegrino & Marissa Pellegrino, both of Melrose. Caring brother of Joann Pellegrino of Rockport, ME & the late Angela Pellegrino, Lillian Pellegrino & Rose Boucher. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Tues., Aug. 21st at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Family & friends invited. Visiting hours Mon. from 4-9PM.
