Joseph J. Twohig Jr. died at his home in Melrose on Nov. 26th at the age of 76. Joseph was born and raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School Class of 1946 and was a lifelong resident. He entered the Navy during his Junior year in High School and served in the US Navy during WWII. Joseph then joined the Army and served as a criminal investigator during the Korean War. Mr. Twohig was a retired safety engineer at the US Post Office, he worked at the South Boston Postal Annex and in the Boston office for over 40 years. He was a member of the Irish American Club in Malden, the VFW Harold O'Young Post #2394 in Melrose, the Massachusetts Korean War Veterans Assoc., the CID Agents Assoc., the National Retired Federal Employees Assoc. and he served on the POW MIA Committee for the State of Massachusetts. Joseph was the son of the late Joseph F. & Minnie (Coyne) Twohig. Brother of William Twohig & his wife Alice J. of Stoneham and the late Edward Twohig. Uncle of William Twohig Jr. of ME, Patricia A. McGaffigan of Groton, Michael J. Twohig of Stoneham and Maureen F. Swanton of Reading. Also survived by 9 grand nieces & nephews and 2 great grand nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Mon. Dec.1st at 9AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sun. 4-8PM.
