Obituary

Joseph J. Yancovitz Sr. passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on February 10th at the age of 94. He was born in Boston, raised in East Boston, graduated from Commerce High School in Boston and attended Boston University. Joseph served in the US Army during WWII, following his service in the Army he worked as a railroad clerk for New York Central Railroad for 40 years. He lived in Melrose for over 50 years and was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church & St. Mary's Holy Name Society in Melrose. He was the husband of the late Louise W. (Kiernan) Yancovitz. Father of Joseph J. Yancovitz Jr. of Stoneham, Jean Tammaro of Reading and Mary Lou Rush of Townsend. Brother of Frank Yancovitz of CA, Sister Mary Laureen O.P. of Kentucky, Alice Maider of Allston and the late Charlotte Jorgensen & John Yancovitz. Grandfather of Christopher Rush, Eric Tammaro, Michael Rush, Paul Tammaro & Christine Yancovitz. Great grandfather of Nicholas Tammaro. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Sat. Feb. 14th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Friday 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to St. Mary's Church, 46 Myrtle St., Melrose, MA 02176.
