Josephine M. Jo (Salvato) Murphy passed away at the Health South New England Rehabilitation of Woburn, on April 2, 2006, she was 79. Josephine was born in Boston, raised in Charlestown and attended school in Charlestown. Jo lived in Medford for 5 years and has been a resident of Melrose for over 55 years. Mrs. Murphy worked for the Transitron Company in Melrose for a few years and then went to school and became a dietician. She worked as a dietician for the Middlesex Fells Nursing Home in Melrose for 10 years and then for several years at the Greenwood Nursing Home in Wakefield. Jo was a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield; she enjoyed gardening and her dog coco. Josephine was the wife of the late Francis A. Murphy. Mother of Arlene Steeves & her husband Harold of VA, Thomas J. Murphy & his wife Susan of Stoneham and William F. Murphy of Melrose. Sister of Doris McCann of Somerville & Louise Hancock of Lynn. Grandmother of Melissa A. Murphy, Thomas J. Murphy Jr., James A. Murphy & Julie Chapman. Great grandmother of Devan Chapman. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thurs. April 6th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Wed. 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose.
