Mrs. Katherine (Jamison) Blackwood died in Northampton, Massachusetts on November 12, 2010. Mrs. Blackwood was born in Marks, Mississippi on August 9, 1918, the daughter of Kate (Reedy) Jamison and Mellard Jamison. She graduated from Marks High School in 1934 and from Delta State University, then Delta State Teachers' College, in 1938 and Peabody College in 1940. She taught in Crowder, Mississippi and in Marks. During World War II she was Civilian Director of Labor Relations with the Army Engineers at Holston Ordnance Works in Kingsport, Tennessee. She also worked on the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She was pre-deceased by her husband John Blackwood and her grandson Scott Sherwood. Survivors include her daughter Mary Sherwood, her daughter Linda Small and son John Blackwood. She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday Nov 20th at 11AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours prior to the service from 10:30AM-11:00AM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Katherine's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
