Katherine E. "Betty" Long, of Melrose, died at the Golden Living Elmhurst Nursing Center in Melrose on Dec. 29, 2012 at the age of 83. Betty was born & raised in Melrose and a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1948. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Melrose and St. Mary's Ladies Sodality for many years. Betty worked in Medical Claims for the Teamsters Union Local #25 in Charlestown for 27 years before her retirement. She enjoyed music, reading, going to church, and spending the holidays with her family. Betty also loved to travel to Punta Gorda, Florida for over 20 years. She was the loving daughter of the late Thomas & Katherine (Riley) Long. Caring sister of the late John, Thomas, Gerald and Brian Long and Eleanor Senier. Devoted aunt of Cynthia Athanas of Melrose, Janine Scola of FL, Kathryn Stoddart of Melrose, Andrea Psmithe of OK, Gregory Long of MD, William Long of Quincy, Susan Long of KS and the late Patricia Masone. Also survived by many great nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday Jan. 5th at 9AM. A Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
