Kathleen T. Driscoll, of Melrose passed away in Tewksbury, surrounded by her family on Saturday, 1 March. She was 85 years old. Kathleen was born in Cloonbigney, Taghmaconnell, Co. Roscommon Ireland and was the second daughter of the late John & Anne (Brady) Cusack. She was the wife of the late Robert Driscoll for 32 years, dear sister of the late Michael Cusack of Ireland and Mary Cusack of Melrose, who passed on 1 February this year.
Kathleen came to the United States at the age of 18, a year later than her sister Mary. After arriving in Boston, she worked for several families throughout New England until her marriage. She worked for the Boston Museum of Science and after her children entered school, she worked for the Fitch Home in Melrose, various families in the area, and until her retirement, for many year at the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wakefield.
Kathleen is survived by her three children John J. Driscoll & his wife Merribeth of Springfield, Catherine A. Casey & her husband John of Tewksbury and Alfred M. Driscoll & his wife Samantha of Derry, NH. She loved and adored her three grandchildren, John Michael, Audrey, Robert Francis Casey all of Tewksbury.
Kathleen loved to travel, especially with her family, which included multiple cruises, trips home to Ireland, Lourdes, France, the seacoast of Maine, and all of New England. She was devoted to her faith and was a member of St. Mary's Parish, the Lady's Sodality, Rosary Group, and was a regular at the Saturday 4 PM vigil mass.
Those who knew Kathleen would often recall her walking all over Melrose, riding the train into Boston, riding the bus to shop or visit friends. Her door always swung wide open to welcome anyone in for a cup of tea. Kathleen was a grand cook and took pleasure in providing home cooked meals for family and friends who may grace her home from near and afar. Kathleen had a passion for her home, gardening, and enjoyed caring for her flowers. She will be missed by all her knew her.
Relatives and visitors are invited to celebrate Kathleen's life at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, March 5 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and again Thursday, March 6 from 8:00 to 8:45, followed by a 9 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary' Church, Herbert St., Melrose and laid to rest in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kathleen's name to the Little Sister's of the Poor, 186 Highland Ave., Somerville, MA 02143.
