Kathleen M. (Igo) McGrath, of Melrose, died at the Meadow Green Nursing Home in Waltham on Dec. 24, 2008 at the age of 87. Kathleen was born in Norwich, CT and raised in Malden & Wakefield. She graduated from Malden High School, Class of 1938 and Stratford Secretarial School in Boston. During WWII, she worked as a Stenographer for the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. Kathleen went on work as a stenographer for the 1st Navel District in Boston, Navel Hospital in Chelsea in the Hearings & Appeals for 15 years and the Social Security Appeals at the John F. Kennedy Building in Boston for 8 years. Kathleen resided in Melrose since 1951, volunteered at the Milano Center in Melrose, enjoyed animals and traveling to Alaska, Canadian Rockies, England, Ireland and Scotland. She was a member St. Mary's Church in Melrose for many years, Community Associates, AARP, Melrose Arts & Crafts and the Retired Federal Employees Association. Kathleen was a lifelong learner, who in her 50's went back to school to earn an Associate Degree from Bunker Hill College and then her Bachelors Degree from Boston State College. She was the devoted wife of the late Charles T. McGrath for 38 years. Loving mother of Rosemary McGrath of Melrose & Charles T. "Tom" McGrath & his wife Julie of Erie, CO. Caring sister of Alice Buckley of Concord, Anna Hennessey and the late Francis Igo Jr. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Mon. Dec. 29th at 9AM.
