Kathryn C. Hackett passed away at her home in Melrose, on June 17, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was 71 years of age. Kathryn was born in Medford, MA on February 26, 1943 to the late William T. & Mary L. (Gilfeather) Hackett. She was raised in Melrose, graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School, St. Mary's High School, Class of 1960 and from Massachusetts Hospital School of Nursing. She later went on to further her studies and graduated Emmanuel College in 1985. Kathryn was a nurse specializing in Cardiac care, and over the course of a 44-year career worked at Massachusetts General Hospital, MIT Health Research, and Mass Eye & Ear in Boston. Miss Hackett dedicated a large part of her life to serving others through her nursing skills and always took a personal interest in her patients. She was a strong supporter of veteran's organizations and was very generous to Native American charities. Kathryn was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church in Melrose, loved gardening, reading, painting and was a member of the local gardening club. She was the beloved mother of James Cyrus Hackett & his wife Valerie of Ohio. Loving sister of William T. Hackett & his wife Mary Ann of NJ, Anne M. Hackett and James C. Hackett, both of Melrose. Cherished aunt of William F. Hackett and Kristen A. Hackett. Also survived by many wonderful coworkers and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Saturday, June 28th from 9:30-11:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 11:30AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kathryn's name to St. Mary's Church Capital Campaign, 46 Myrtle St. Melrose, MA 02176.
