Kevin M. Walsh, Chief of Melrose Fire Dept., died suddenly at Brigham & Women's Hospital on Aug. 13th at the age of 56. Kevin was born and raised in Malden, graduated from Malden High Class of 1964, entered the US Air Force after high school and served in the Air Force for 4 years during the Vietnam War. After the Air Force Kevin joined the Melrose Fire Dept. on Sept. 27, 1972, became Lt. on Jan. 19, 1978, then Captain on February 2, 1981 and appointed Chief of the Melrose Fire Dept. on Aug. 19, 2002. Kevin has been a resident of Melrose for the past 34 years. He was a member of the Boston Gaelic Fire Brigade, Melrose Elks, Stoneham American Legion and the VFW Harold O' Young Post #2394 in Melrose. Kevin was the husband of Suzanne F. (Smith) Walsh. Father of Kevin R. Walsh of Malden & Christopher M. Walsh of Melrose. Brother of Elaine Notorangeli & her husband Peter of NH formerly of Malden. Brother-in-law of Kathy Logue & her husband William of Lynn, Robert E. Smith of WA, Patricia A. Pike of Melrose and the late Beverly Griggers & Judith A. Sergi. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday Aug. 18th at 8:30AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Saturday 4-7PM & Sunday 1-6PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose.
