Lawrence F. Lewis, of Melrose, died at the Wakefield Care & Rehab in Wakefield on Sept. 12, 2011 at the age of 59. Larry was born & raised in Lynn and a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1970. He went on to earn his Business Degree from Bentley College in 1974. Larry worked as a Programmer in the Claims Recovery Dept. at Blue Cross & Blue Shields in Quincy for 28 years before retiring in 2007. He was also a member of the Sterling Club Cross & Shield Assoc. at Blue Cross & Blue Shield for over 25 years of service. Larry was a wonderful son to his mother and enjoyed spending time playing cribbage with his father & brother. He enjoyed Basketball, Racquetball, tennis, golf and coaching Melrose incarnation little league and Melrose youth soccer. Larry loved to play blackjack and traveled to Las Vegas for over 30 years and was an avid Red Sox, Celtic's & Patriots fan. He was the beloved husband of Georgiana L. (Lloyd) Lewis for 34 years. Loving father of Kevin A. Lewis of Melrose. Devoted son of the late Frank & Pauline (Ambagie) Lewis. Caring brother of Geoffrey Lewis & his wife Nancy of AZ. Brother in law of Margaret Lloyd of Melrose and Robert Lloyd & his wife Janice of Hawaii. Son in law of Ann Lloyd of Melrose. Uncle of Ryan Lloyd and Joel & Nathan Lewis. Beloved Westie "JC". A celebration of Larry's life will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday, Sept. 24th at 3PM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours prior to the service from 1-3PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Larry's name to the Melrose Friends for the Aging, 235 W. Foster St., Melrose, MA 02176.
