Larry Russo died after a long illness at Mass. General Hospital Jan 3rd at the age of 77. He was born and brought up in Melrose and lived most of his life in Everett. He served in the Merchant Marine during WWII making seven trans atlantic crossings. He was employed at several area Car Dealerships as a General Service Manager and Body Shop Manager including Luby Chevrolet of Boston, Smyly Buick of Malden and Curley's Main St. Chevrolet in Wakefield. He was also the owner of Larry's Jenny Gas Station on Elm St. in Everett for 15yrs. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, camping and he even climbed Mt Washington 3yrs ago at the age of 74. He skated in an over 70 league at Kasabuski Rink in Saugus until this past May. This past year Larry & Kathleen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an Alaskan Cruise. He was a communicant at Our Lady of Grace Church in Chelsea/Everett Line and was a life member of the Winter Hill Yaucht Club. Lawrence J. ''Larry'' Russo was the husband of Kathleen B. Brother of Anthony Russo of Melrose, Josephine Giuffre of Ca, Susan Russo of Melrose, Mary Russo of FL and the late Caroline Cioffi, Nancy Lopez and John Russo. Grandfather of Steven & Jason Myatt, Olivia & Katie Ostroff, Robert A. Russo II & Alexandria Russo. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Sat. Jan. 6th at 9 AM. Funeral mass in Our Lady of Grace Church 59 Nichols St. Chelsea/Everett Line at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
