Lena M. (Spadafora) Nugent passed away at her home in Oxford, Maine on August 29, 2021. She was born in Melrose to the late Pasquale & Maria (Smarrala) Spadafora. She was raised in Melrose, graduated from St. Mary's Grammar & St. Mary's High School. Lena was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church, received all her sacraments at St. Mary's and was a lifelong resident of Melrose before moving to Oxford, Maine 10 years ago. Lena worked for many for the Melrose School Department in the cafeteria at Melrose High School. Mrs. Nugent and her late husband Dick did everything together. They enjoyed daytrips, week vacations, trips to Hawaii to visit Dick's friends he met while in the service and traveling across the US. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Mary's Lady Sodality. Lena & Dick resided on Pleasant Street in Melrose for over 50 years where they enjoyed many family gatherings. Lena was the beloved wife of 60 years to the late Joseph R. "Dick" Nugent. Loving mother of Joseph R. "Rick" Nugent, Jr. & his late wife Debra of Oxford, ME. Cherished grandmother of Shawn, Timothy, Corey, Aaron & Shikara. Loving "G G" of Wyatt, Paige, Piper, Ayden, Vivianne & Lydia. Caring sister of the late Frances Norton & her husband Bernard, Mary Collella & her husband Patrick, Robert Spadafora & his wife Maude, Josephine Spadafora, George Spadafora & his wife Josephine, Joseph Spadafora & his wife Anne and Edith Spadafora. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
