Obituary

Leo J. Breen, formerly of Melrose, son of the late Leo J. and Alice (Webber) Breen. He passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, at 82 years of age.

Leo was born and raised in Charlestown, MA 02129. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Boston, MA. After High School, Leo proudly served his country in the U. S. National Guard from 1962-1965. Leo resided in Melrose, MA since 1969 and worked in many different facets at the New England Telephone Company (MA Bell) for many years, and after many mergers and diversifications Leo ended up working with the phone company for 37 years before retiring in 1999.

Leo was the beloved husband of the late Eileen T. (Sullivan) Breen. Loving father of Joseph L. Breen and his wife Shiela of Tewksbury, MA, Cheryl A. Breen of Stoneham, MA, Dennis J. Breen and his wife Leslie of Melrose, MA and Kevin P. Breen and his wife Melissa of Hudson, NH.

A very caring brother, to Dorothy Piscatelli and her late husband Tom, the late Ruth (Sissy) Blake and her husband Billy, Carol O'Connor and her husband Ed, Paul Breen and his wife Susie and the late Barbara Breen.

Leo was also a loving Brother-in-Law to his late wife Eileen's family that will miss him dearly. The late Eugene (Sully) Sullivan and his deceased wife Dot, Ann Aldrich and her late husband Bob, Kathy DeVellis and her late husband Sal, Maureen McCarthy and her husband George.

Leo had a few nicknames Big Red, Junie, Bruno and his favorite was Papa. When one of his 9 grandkids would say Papa his face would light up the room. Papa was very proud to watch his grandkids grow up and excel at many things. He loved to go watch them compete. Whether it was wrestling, boxing, hockey, soccer, football, dancing, cheer or volleyball he would always be there and loved it. Domenic, Zachary, Matthew, Hannah, Caroline, Ashley, Ruth, Claudia and Natalie already miss him dearly.

Leo is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 4-7 PM. There will be a Funeral Service on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10 AM at Saint Mary of the Annunciation, 4 Herbert St Melrose, MA . Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
