Leo Daniel Gilligan died at Harborside Health Care in Wakefield on July 6th at the age of 76. He was born and raised in Melrose, attended Melrose High School and entered the Navy while still in high school. Leo served in the Navy during WWII and the worked at the New England Telephone Company and a supervisor for 30 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of the VFW Harold O'Young Post #2394 in Melrose. He was the husband of the late Teresa M. (Courage) Gilligan. Loving father of Daniel L. Gilligan & his wife Debbie of Reading and Lois E. Gilligan of Melrose. Brother of Martha Doucette of Gloucester, Mary Jane Murphy of Ca and the late Lawrence F. Gilligan. Brother-in-law of Lois Gilligan of Melrose. Loving grandfather of Colleen, Julie & Christopher Gilligan. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Wed. July 9th at 9AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Tues. 5-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose.
