Leo F. Bud Greene of Melrose passed away at the Youville Hospital of Cambridge, July 23, 2006, at the age of 86. Born in Winthrop to the late Leo F. & Margaret (Skeffington) Greene, Bud was raised mostly in Melrose. He graduated from trade school & became a printer, starting a career with the Herald Traveler, the Herald American and the Boston Herald. In all, Bud worked for 33 years with the same paper. He retired in 1980 but continued working for his family. He wall papered & painted, worked in the real estate field with his wife, Marquerite & was an active member of Incarnation Church, running bingo & fund raising. Leo always enjoyed taking a family vacation with his wife & children. He loved Rangeley Lake, the state of Maine, Meredith, NH & for 10 years, Harwichport on Cape Cod. He had many friends. Mr. Greene was a WWII Navy veteran serving on the destroyer USS Halsy Powell during the battle of the Coral Sea. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus of Melrose. Leo was the husband of the late Marguerite M. (Donahue) Greene. Loving father of Mary L. Toomey & her husband Albert of Melrose, Elizabeth M. Betsy Mainero & her husband Alfred of Saugus & Leo F. Greene, III & his wife Barbara of Melrose. Cherished grand father of Angela L.Vitale, Sean E. Toomey, James S.Sullivan, Leo P. Greene & Carole Anne Greene. Proud great grandfather of Quinn Beckles. Caring brother of the late Elizabeth Connolly & brother in law of Dr. Joseph B. Connolly. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thurs. July 27th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in the Church of the Incarnation 425 Upham St. Melrose at 10AM. Family & friends invited. Visiting hours Wed.2-4 & 7-9PM.
