Leo J. Hurley, Jr, of Melrose, MA, known to many as Pete, passed suddenly on Saturday, July 14th, 2018. Born April 11, 1938 in Winthrop, MA, to Leo and Eleanor Hurley, he grew up on Wolcott Road, Revere and Larchmont Road, Melrose. He was an all-star and captain of the Melrose High School Basketball team class of 1956, and played basketball at Brewster Academy and Plymouth State Teachers College. He leaves a loving wife, Jean, with whom he was married to for 54 years, his son's Peter and wife Paula and Douglas and wife Tong, his brother Paul, as well as three grandchildren William, Laura and QianQian. Leo spent his youth on Revere Beach and was one of the last of the Hurley family to be part of the glory days of Revere Beach amusements. Known to his family and friends as "Boulevard," Leo started his career in the antiques business over 50 years ago, established Boulevard Antiques, and had a long relationship with H.G. Webber Antiques of Hampton, New Hampshire. He was a passionate Boston sports fan and enjoyed spending time in his garden tending to his roses. He will be missed by those he touched, friends, family and loved ones. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, July 18th from 4-7PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Thursday, July 19th at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
