Leo E. Rogers passed away at the Huntington at Nashua, on Sunday, July 11, 2010. He was 89 years of age. Leo was born in Boston, raised in Boston and graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in Boston, Class of 1938. Mr. Rogers was a WWII Navy Veteran and played the trumpet in the US Navy Band. He has been a lifelong resident of Melrose and enjoyed summering at Whitehorse Beach in Plymouth for over 60 years. Leo worked as a project technician at MIT in the Draper Lab for the Space Research Program for over 30 years. Mr. Rogers was an artist, had a wonderful tenor voice, an avid reader and was a longtime member of the Incarnation Church and Incarnation Church Bowling League. Leo loved to work with his hands fixing cars, doing carpentry work, cabinet making and remodeling his home. He was a wonderful husband and devoted father of 8. Mr. Rogers was the husband of the late wife Mary P. (Mooney) Rogers. Father of Leo Jr. & his wife Dorothy of NH, Dennis M. & his wife Jo-Anne of Lynnfield, Gerald S. & his wife Maryann of Plymouth, Kenneth L. & his wife Mary of Stoneham, Elaine A. Lore & her husband Bruce of CA, Christine M. Brand of Melrose, Neil P. & his wife Lori of Nashua, NH and Richard J. Rogers & his wife Gail of Beverly. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thurs., July 15th at 8AM. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Leo's life will be held at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8PM.
