Lia j. (Hackett) Brodeur, of Malden, passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on December 26, 2025, at the age of 92. Lia was born on January 4, 1933 to the late William & Helen Hackett. She was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Our Lady of Pity High School in Cambridge, MA.
Our Mom/Nana built family and community. She raised her kids, her kids’ kids, and their kids among others. She loved us all deeply and without condition. She was a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader, a field trip chaperone, a CCD leader, a lunch lady at Roosevelt School – anything that anyone needed, especially her kids. The same was true of her beautiful relationship with Norm. She was his wife, loyal partner, coparent, travel companion, nurse and caregiver. We are all lucky they found each other. To understand her best, bring to mind your fondest memories of your most cherished loved ones – spouses, parents, siblings, or dear friends – and you will know what it means to be a part of her family.
Lia was the beloved wife of Norman W. Brodeur. Loving father of Michelle Brodeur & her husband Ian Ward of Melrose, Stephen Brodeur & his wife Marilyn of Woburn, Andrew Brodeur & his wife Kathy Pigott-Brodeur, Elizabeth Brodeur, and Paul Brodeur & his wife Elizabeth Bailey Brodeur, all of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Nathan Brodeur & his wife Amy of Melrose, Alexander Brodeur of Cambridge, Jamie (Kristen) Brodeur of Washington, DC, Lia Brodeur of Somerville, Robert Brodeur of Chelsea, Sarah Hubauer (deceased) of Webster and Ethan & Sam Brodeur, both of Melrose. Great grandmother of Thomas, Madeleine, Owen, Lucas and Charlotte Brodeur, Andrew Weissberg, Matthew Richardson, and Riley Bradshaw. Caring sister of Virginia Loder, Helen Troop, Paul Reno, Billy Reno, Ethel Fitzgerald, Mary Sellers, Bill Hackett, Paula Kennedy, Betty Bernier, Judy Gallo, and Ann Kroll, all of whom predeceased her.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park & Cemetery,185 Lake Street, Peabody, MA immediately following the Mass.
