Lillian M. Wallace, late of Melrose, died Wednesday following a brief illness. She was 97. Born in Blackstone, MA, in 1905, she was the middle and last surviving of seven children of John and Lillie (Pedder) Moran. Following the death of her mother she left high school to go to work but eventually graduated from the Milford Hospital School of Nursing in 1928 and became Operating Room Supervisor at Milford Hospital until her marriage to John Allen Wallace, of Milford, in 1934. They lived together raising three children on Purchase Street until Mr. Wallace's death in 1956, at which time she returned to private nursing for several years, later moving to Newton briefly, then to Woonsocket, RI, and finally to Melrose, where she lived in elderly housing for over twenty years. She is survived by two half-brothers, Henry Moran of Lafayette, CA, and John Moran of Worcester MA. She was the much loved mother of John Allen Wallace of Boston, Richard D. Wallace of Melrose, and the late Robert M. Wallace of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the grandmother of Richard and Sandra's children Peter of Medway, Sarah of Mt. Laurel, NJ, and Stephen of Watertown and of Robert and Peg's children Amy and David of Cincinnati, OH. She was great grandmother of Andrew of Medway. Funeral will be held from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W Foster St Melrose on Monday Nov 4 at 10:30 AM. Funeral Mass in St Mary's Church, corner of Herbert & Myrtle Sts, Melrose at 11AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be held prior to the Mass from 9:30 to 10:30 AM Monday morning. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery corner of Dilla & Cedar St Milford at 1:30 PM.
