Lorraine I. (Craig) Gilleland passed away at The Elmhurst Nursing Home in Melrose, on Sept. 22nd, at the age of 82. Lorraine was born and raised in Somerville, graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1941 and The Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1944. After graduating from nursing school she entered the US Navy and served as a registered nurse during WWII for more than 2 years. Mrs. Gilleland worked as a registered nurse at the U.S. Naval Hospital in St. Albana, NY while in the Navy and then at The New England Memorial Hospital, Winchester Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Hospital for many years. Lorraine was a member of St. Marys Church in Melrose. Mrs. Gilleland was the wife of the late Leo F. Gilleland with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Mother of Craig L. Gilleland of Melrose, Bonnie J. Deveau & her fiance Dana Burleigh of ME and Scott E. Gilleland of Melrose. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday Sept. 26th, at 9:00AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday morning from 9:00-9:45AM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
