Obituary

Louis B. Connelly Jr. passed away in Winchester, on April 8, 2008; he was 77 years old. Mr. Connelly was born and raised in Somerville, graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1948, from Suffolk University and received a Masters in Education from Suffolk University. Louis moved to Melrose in 1963 and has been a resident for the past 45 years. He worked as the director of public relations for Suffolk University for 35 years, retiring in 2003. While working at Suffolk University, Mr. Connelly also worked as a sports reporter for the Herald Newspaper in the 1960's for 8 years and covered the Red Sox during the 1967 World Series. Louis was first and foremost a family man, who loved to spend time with his wife, 5 daughters and his brother & sisters. He enjoyed his summer vacations on Cape Cod and was an avid Red Sox & Patriots fan. Mr. Connelly was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church where he helped with the parish newsletter. He was a member of the Boston Publicity Club, the National Publicity Club, Boston Sports Writers Association, the Friends of Somerville High School and he headed up the fund raising for the United Way at Suffolk University for many years. Louis was the husband of the late Maureen C. (Devine) Connelly. Father of Paula M. Albanese & her husband Michael of Wilmington, Leslie A. Chakalis & her husband Stephen, Susan E. Kelley & her husband Ralph, Carolyn M. Connelly and Jennifer P. Gentile & her husband Michael all of Melrose. Grandfather of Kyle, Caroline, Christopher, Harrison, Chloe and Grace. Brother of Louise Martin of Melrose and the late William Connelly, Mary Hoffman & Elizabeth Bouvier. Brother-in-law of Clifford Bouvier of Ipswich and the late John Martin, Louise Connelly & Edward Hoffman. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday, April 11th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Thurs 4-8PM. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Memorial contributions may be made in Louis's name to the Lewy Body Dementia Assoc., P.O. Box 451429, Atlanta, GA 31145.
