Louis P. Froio, of Melrose, died at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on Dec. 9, 2008 at the age of 91. Louis was born & raised in East Boston and attended East Boston Schools. He resided in East Boston until 1950 and lived the past 58 years in Melrose. Louis worked as a Foreman for the Bell Oldsmobile in Revere for many years. He was very active at the Milano Senior Center in Melrose and was an outstanding Bridge Player winning many tournaments. Louis enjoyed reading, politics, sports, golf and being a handyman around his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Vera M. McLaughlin for 53 years. Loving father of Pauline Pothier & her husband Donald of FL, Beverly Holmes & her husband William of Reading, Janice Mayberry & her husband Paul of Ludlow, Paul Froio of CO, Rosemarie Surface of AZ and John Froio of Melrose. Caring brother of Mary Bernardi of Wilmington, Rose Cottie & Tillie Brill, both of FL and the late John Froio, Theresa Catanzaro, Anna Gallaway and Robert Froio. Also survived by 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday Dec. 18th at 10AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 11AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Wednesday Dec. 17th from 3-7PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Louis's name to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, 320 Haverhill St., Reading, MA 01867.
