Louis "Tig" Letterie died on August 3, 2016 at home. Formerly of East Boston, he lived in Melrose for over 50 years and had a second home in Osterville, MA. Born in East Boston in 1927, he was the son of James and Florence (DeLucia) Letterie. He attended East Boston HS and worked as a Production Manager at Teknor Apex for 40 years. He was a past Grand Knight of Fitton Council of East Boston and a 4th degree Knight of Bishop Chevras. He was a world traveler having spent time in South America, the Middle East and Europe with over 30 trips to Italy. He has a deep love of family and was a loyal friend. He always looked forward to seeing his relatives and friends and exchanging stories and recollections of growing up in East Boston. In addition to his beloved wife Eleanor, he leaves behind his children. Ernest and his wife Janet of Fredericksburg, VA, Raymond and his wife Laurie of Melrose, and his daughter Gloria Hernon of Melrose. He also leaves behind is treasured grandchildren, Rachel, Brandon, Jillian and Sean Hernon, Ernie and Heather Letterie, Matthew and Ashley Letterie, and three great grandchildren.
He is survived by his sisters Rose Cedrone and Florence Phillips. He was predeceased by his brothers Frank, Pat and Jimmy and his sisters Mary Rao and Norma Szymanski. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and dear friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Monday, August 8, 2016 from 8 AM to 9:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, MA. Services will conclude with burial at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
