Obituary

Lucy A. Keith, of Melrose, passed away peacefully in her home on December 5, 2022, at the age of 95.

Lucy was born on January 11, 1927 to Alfred and Augusta Parks in Needham, Massachusetts. She graduated from Brookline High School in 1945. Shortly thereafter in 1947, she married John "Jack" Keith and they went on to begin their family. Lucy and Jack welcomed their three children, Jack, Andy, and Robin into the world. As a young family they resided in Newbury and then later moved to Melrose.

Lucy was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack Keith. Lucy is survived by her three loving children; John Keith Jr. and his wife, Christie Sommers of Scituate, Andrew Keith and his wife, Candy Keith of Easton, and Robin Messina, and her husband Frank Messina of Stoneham. She was a devoted grandmother to 7 grandchildren and cherished by 11 great grandchildren.

Lucy loved her family dearly. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the center of her world. She enjoyed weekly visits with her family, especially her great grandchildren. She loved playing music for them and watching the children play at her feet, with the same toys enjoyed for generations.

Lucy and Jack enjoyed traveling together and spent many of their winters in Sarasota, Florida. A piece of Lucy's heart will always remain on the white sandy beaches of Siesta Key.

Lucy was known for her green thumb. If you couldn't find her in the house, surely you'd find her tending to her garden along the driveway and down on the back hill. The vibrant colors adorned by the flowers in the garden represented Lucy in all aspects of her life.

She was an incredible baker. Her Christmas cookies, especially her molasses and sugar cookies, were a crowd favorite. She enjoyed baking for the holidays and meticulously assembling cookie trays for her family and friends.

Downtown Melrose was where Lucy spent many of her days. Yoga and lunch with the girls were just a couple of her favorite things. She also enjoyed making weekly visits to the Melrose Public Library. Lucy was an avid reader. You could always count on finding a murder-mystery book or something a little "steamy" on her coffee table and a bag of already read books next to the couch.

She loved going for weekly dinners with Jack, Andy, and Robin especially to her favorite spot, Turner's Seafood. And we can't forget the stockpile of goods from CVS that she needed on a weekly basis.

Everyone who met Lucy loved her immediately. She loved to ask the questions people were always wondering, but never dared to ask. As a dear friend said, Lucy was a relic, who offered the absolute best advice (whether you wanted to hear it or not). Her words, her personality, and her unwavering love will be missed beyond measure by many.

To know Lucy was to love Lucy, and rich were those of us to have been loved by her. Her legacy will live on in our hearts and in the traditions that we will continue in her honor.

Lucy's services will be private, but donations can be made to the Melrose Public Library in her honor.
