M. Patricia Travers, of Melrose, formerly of Mission Hill, died Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. She was 81 years old. Born on January 15, 1929, a loving daughter of the late Bernard & Gertrude (Sullivan) Travers, she was raised in Boston and a 1946 graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School of W. Roxbury. She later attended Boston Clerical School of Boston and worked as an administrator with Harvard University Law School for 3 years, then as the department manager of oral surgery with Harvard University Dental School and Massachusetts General Hospital for 7 years. Ms. Travers later worked as an ombudsman with Mystic Valley Elder Services and North Shore Elder Services of Danvers for 10 years. Patricia lived in Melrose for over 30 years, attended St. Mary's Church and Ladies Sodality of St. Mary's. She was a member of the League of Women's Voters of Melrose for 5 years, Chairperson of the local #1124 of the AARP, Group Leader of the Malden YMCA and a Medicare Ambassador for Blue Cross Blue Shield and opened the Medicare Desk at Melrose Wakefield Hospital. Patricia was also an animal lover. She was the caring sister of Mary Mulvey & her late husband Gerard of Humarock, Miriam McMorrow & her late husband Donald of San Jose, CA, Bernard Travers, Jr. & his late wife Patricia of Chestnut Hill & Richard Travers & his wife Florence of Danvers. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews & great, great nieces & nephews. Funeral in St. Patrick's Church 71 Central St., Stoneham on Tues. Feb. 23rd at 10AM. Family & friends respectfully invited. There are no visiting hours. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, W. Roxbury.
