Madeline M. (Izzo) Sarno of Newburyport, formerly of Malden died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the Country Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Newburyport. She was 96 years old. Born in Malden on May 9, 1914, a daughter to the late Paul & Grace (Conte) Izzo, she was raised in Malden and worked as a sales associate with the Gilchrist Department Store of Saugus for 20 years. Mrs. Sarno enjoyed knitting, baking and dancing. She was a member of the South Broadway Improvement Association, lived in Malden until 1976 and then lived in St. Petersburg & the Palm Coast of Florida for 18 years. She was the devoted wife of the late Jerald J. Sarno, a loving mother of Jerry P. Sarno & his wife Sue of Portsmouth, NH, the late John S. Sarno & Alan J. Sarno & his wife Sheila of Westford. Cherished grandmother of Stephen Sarno & his wife Janice, David Sarno & his wife Beth, Christopher Sarno & his wife Denee, Jennifer Sarno, Cheryl Ringen & her husband Leland, Jonathan Sarno & Jeffrey Sarno. Great grandmother of Samantha, Danielle, Evan, Madeline, Anastasia & Lillian. Caring sister of the late Mary Thompson, Peter Izzo, Rose McGowan, Dominic Izzo & Frank Izzo. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday, January 22nd at 8AM.
