Marica H. McCarthy, of Bedford, NH, formerly of Melrose, MA, died peacefully on August, 10, 2026, reuniting with her husband of 65 years. She was born in Everett on May 1, 1936 to the late Eleanor (Lee) and Nelson Harrington. She was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 1953, where she met her late husband.

Marcia was the beloved wife of the late John “Jake” McCarthy. Loving mother of Lynda Moore & her husband Steven of Wellfleet, Debra Poitras & her husband Barry, and Nancy Wright & her husband Bob, all of NH. Cherished grandmother of Abigeal & her husband Andrew, Nicole, Kiera and Tara. Caring sister of Robert Harrington of FL, and the late Lee Harrington, Roland Harrington, and Kevin Harrington. Lifelong friend of Nancy Johnson. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.

Marcia loved traveling with her husband John to the Caribbean and Europe. They also made countless memories as a family in Wolfeboro, NH in the summertime. She enjoyed working at Bellevue Dress Shoppe in downtown Melrose, she frequented the shop enough it turned into a part-time job for her. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 14th, 2026, at St. Mary’s Church, 4 Herbert St., Melrose. Visitation will be held prior to the mass from 9:30-10:30am at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan St., Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
