Obituary

Margaret H. Peg Carney passed away at the Life Care Center in Stoneham, on August 5, 2007. She was 95 years of age. Peg was born and raised in Melrose, graduated from St. Marys Grammar School and Melrose High School, Class of 1930. She was a talented athlete, playing field hockey and ice hockey during her high school career. Miss Carney worked for the New England Telephone Company in Boston for 34 years; first as an operator and then as a supervisor in the traffic department, retiring in 1972. After she retired she built a house in South Yarmouth and lived there for 26 years. While living in S. Yarmouth she was active with the Senior Citizen Group and was a member of St. Pius Church. Peg enjoyed horseback riding when she was younger and loved to cook. Margaret has been a resident of Melrose for the past 8 years, was a member of St. Marys Church and the New England Telephone Pioneers. Daughter of the late William J. & Helen (OBrien) Carney. Sister of Lillian Parrish of Melrose and the late William J, John F. & Philip J. Carney. Longtime companion of the late Ida K. Moran. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Wed., August 8th at 10:30AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 11AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours will be held on Wed. morning from 9:00-10:30AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Home for Little Wanderers, 271 Huntington Ave Boston 02115.
