Margaret J. (Lynch) Cotter passed away at Winchester Hospital on Thursday, May 5, 2011. She was 84 years of age. She was born in Charlestown on October 27, 1926 to the late James & Catherine Lynch, raised in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School. Margaret lived in Jamaica plain for a few years and has been a resident of Melrose for over 50 years. Prior to marrying her husband Jack, Mrs. Cotter worked in the court house in Boston. After raising her family, she worked as a lunch mother at Winthrop Elementary School in Melrose and then as a printing technician at Daniels Printing in Boston for 10 years. Margaret adored her grandchildren, enjoyed knitting baby afghans and was an avid reader in her later years. Mrs. Cotter loved watching Boston sports and college basketball, was a member of the "nutty knitters club" and a member of the Silver Singles Club at the Melrose Senior Center. Margaret was the beloved wife of the late John F. "Jack" Cotter. Loving mom of Virginia Lailer & her husband Robert H. Jr. of Chelmsford and Mary Bernadette Shannon & her husband Stephen of Nashua, NH. Cherished nana of Robert H. Lailer III, Daniel J. Lailer, Cara M. & Erin A. Shannon. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Tuesday, May 10th at 8AM. A Funeral Mass in celebrations of Margaret's life at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4:00-8:00PM.
