Margaret "Meg"
Fane
February 1, 1937 – May 22, 2026
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce that Meg passed peacefully at the age of 89, after a long and courageous fight with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born in the London area, Meg's early childhood was shaped by extraordinary circumstances. During World War II she and her mother moved between temporary housing, bomb shelters, and even Ireland, while her father proudly served in the fight against Nazi Germany. Through it all, she learned the best and worst of humanity at a tender age — an experience that forged in her a spirit of resilience and survival that would define her for the rest of her life.
In 1959, Meg made the courageous journey to the United States, bringing with her a strong work ethic and a deep yearning for peace and happiness. Meg was proud of her career, having worked for the iconic British firm Rolls Royce in Woodcliff Lake and Lehn & Fink Products in Montvale, both in New Jersey. She worked full time throughout, and was equally devoted to having a proper dinner on the table each evening so she could enjoy time with her children at the end of every working day.
Her holiday roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, and English crepes became beloved traditions enjoyed by the family for decades. On weekends, her beautiful voice could be heard at Johann's Oaks in New Jersey, where she hostessed and sang alongside the pianist — and on Saturday mornings, that same voice could be heard over the "Hoover" (vacuum).
In 1987, Meg relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, where she enjoyed the warmer climate and the ocean. She gracefully ended her working years by volunteering at a local hospital. In her final chapter, she spent her last days living close to her daughter Tracy and her family in Massachusetts.
Meg was the mother of Sharron, Russell, and Tracy. She shared a close and loving bond with Russell and his wife Melanie of the Cayman Islands, and Tracy and her husband Peter of Nahant, Massachusetts. She was a devoted Nana to Jason and his wife Sam, Kori and her partner Cody, Ryan and his fiancée Corey, and Justin, and was a proud "Great Nan" to Stetson and Rhenlee. She also reconnected with her daughter Sharron of England, and her granddaughters Louise and Katy and their families in 2008, a reunion that brought its own meaning in her later years.
She is also survived by her brother David and his wife Melanie Fane of Crawley, England, and by a circle of dear friends whose companionship enriched her life across many decades — among them Anne, Audrey, Val, Shirley, Joan, Annie, DeDe, and Collette, as well as Ana and Roseanne, who more recently brought joy and friendship to her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation to a charity of your choice. Meg had a great love of cats, dogs, and music, and she hoped deeply that a cure for Alzheimer's would one day spare others from the cruelty of the disease she endured.
A Farewell Gathering will be held on June 13, 2026. Place and time to be determined. Details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.
