Margaret E. "Marge" (McCarthy) Prior, of Reading, formerly of Melrose, died at the Winchester Hospital on July 9, 2013 at the age of 80. Marge was born & raised in Charlestown, a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School in the North End, Class of 1949 and was the Class President. She went on to earn her English Degree from Emmanuel College in 1953. Marge was a homemaker and also worked as an Administrative Assistant for an Insurance company, and Elementary School Teacher and Assistant Election Clerk in Melrose for many years. She was a CCD Coordinator at St. Mary's Church in Melrose, an Assistant Leader for the Camp Fire Girls, former member of St. Mary's Ladies Sodality and a member of the North Shore Irish Association. She resided in Melrose for 43 years and the past 2 years in Reading. Marge was the beloved wife of Eugene I. Prior for 57 years. Caring daughter of the late James & Margaret (O'Connor) McCarthy. Loving mother of Thomas J. Prior of FL, Jean M. Woodman & her husband George of Billerica, Barry M. Prior of MS, Michelle I. Prior & her husband Greg Kurr of Winchester. Cherished grandmother of Kelly, Ryan, Sean, T.J., Matthew, Erin, Ellen, Katie and Colin. Devoted sister of Jerry McCarthy of FL, Jim McCarthy & his wife Rosemary of Hingham, Fran McCarthy & his wife Helene of WA and the late Jack McCarthy & his wife Patricia of Watertown. Also survived by a very dear friend Rosemarie Buckley of MD and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday, July 13th at 9AM. A Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
