Marie R. (Pizzella) Cremin, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at her home in Melrose, MA. She was the beloved wife of 60 years to the
late Michael J. Cremin. She was a devoted mother of seven, and the cherished grandmother of twenty grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was born in Somerville, MA on January 8, 1920. A strong believer in the importance of education, she graduated from Somerville High School and later received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University
of Massachusetts Boston.
Marie was a longtime community activist and a
leader in the field of Early Childhood Education. Through her work with the Elizabeth Peabody House in Somerville, the Department of Health, and other various organizations, Marie strove to serve those around her. She was a fierce
advocate for children, the underprivileged, and anyone who needed her.
Although she had a long career with many accomplishments to her name, Marie was happiest at home, stirring a big pot of pasta, surrounded by her large
family. She fed many generations at her table, dispensing not only food, but also wisdom. Her tremendous generosity and strength of spirit live on in the
memories of those who were blessed to know her. Marie was the beloved wife of 60 years to the late Michael J. Cremin. Loving mother of Mary Cremin of Somerville, Katherine Cremin of Melrose, Albert Cremin of Malden, Anne Langton & her husband Steven of Melrose, Col. Mark Cremin & his wife Loretta of VA and Maureen Cremin & her husband Joseph Kevane of Melrose and the late Michael Cremin. Caring sister of Tina Flett of Cambridge and the late Lena Mac Isaac, Nicholas, Albert & Francis Pizzella. Also survived by 20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Sunday April 26th from 2-6PM. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Monday at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
