Marie Dorothy (LeBlanc) Hannabury passed away at The Hearth at The Gardenside Assisted Living in Branford, CT on June 20, 2016. She was 95 years of age. Mrs. Hannabury was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, came to Chelsea as a young girl, was raised in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 1938. She moved to Melrose in 1961 and lived here for over 50 years before moving to Branford, CT 3 years ago. Marie, like many other women, was part of the greatest generation who supported the war effort by going to work in the local businesses during WWII. After raising her family she returned to work as a cashier at the First National Stores and then for Stop & Shop for over 30 years. Marie was the wife of the late Francis J. Hannabury. Mother of Edward J. Hannabury & his wife Neena Sachdeva of Washington DC, James F. Hannabury of Southbridge, David J. Hannabury & his wife Susan of Branford, CT. Grandmother of Jodi VanPraet & her husband Alan of NH, Eric Hannabury & his wife Alison of Lynn and Samantha & Natalie Hannabury of CT. Great grandmother of Michaela Mackin of Melrose, Madelyn, Adam & Cameron VanPraet of NH and Reid, Cole & Luke Hannabury of Lynn. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 4:00-7:00PM. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Saturday June 25th at 8:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 9:00AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
