Marie T. Kelly passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Saturday, December 10, 2011. She was 84 years of age. Marie was born in Boston on June 9, 1927, was raised in Charlestown, graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School in Charlestown and Cathedral High School in South End in Boston. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the civil service division from 1948 to 1958, for the Division Building Construction from 1958 to 1987 and the for the FEMA Division until her retirement in 1997. Marie enjoyed spending winters in Clearwater, Florida for the past 10 years and was most recently a resident of Melrose. Miss Kelly was New England Patriots fan and an avid Boston College Football fan, traveling all over the country tailgating and going to the BC games. Marie enjoyed traveling to Ireland and Italy, going on cruises, loved being around children, going to the beach and teaching her family members how to swim. Miss Kelly enjoyed crocheting and knitting and shared her talent by making clothes and rugs for her entire family. Marie was the daughter of the late George V. & Anna (Mahoney) Kelly. Sister of George F. Kelly & his late wife Joan of Peabody and Marilyn A. Kelly of Alfred, ME. Aunt of Donna Kline & her husband Steve, Patricia Robertie & her husband Larry and Joan White & her husband Dan all of Peabody. Also survived by1 grand niece and 3 grand nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, December 16th at 9AM. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Marie's life will be held at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00-8:00PM.
