Obituary

Marilyn K. (Hendy) Boyson, of Melrose, died peacefully on January 6th, 2022 at the age of 89. She was born on January 4th, 1933 in Medford, MA, to William R. & Irene F. (Lumbert) Hendy. Marilyn was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School. Marilyn and her husband moved to Melrose, MA in 1955 where they raised their children. Marilyn was very active around Melrose, she was a member of the Theta Group, the Melrose Mothers Club, the Rocky Hill Club, Melrose Republicans Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to that she taught Sunday School at the First Congregational Church in Melrose, was a Campfire Leader, and was very involved with Melrose Youth Hockey. Marilyn worked for the American Airlines, was a Melrose Police Crossing Guard, and worked for New England Telephone Company for many years in addition to raising her family. Marilyn enjoyed spending winters in Dunedin, Florida where she met many lifelong friends. She also enjoyed spending summers at her home in Cape Cod surrounded by family. She was an avid New England sports fan and was always supportive at her children and grandchildren's sporting events. Marilyn was a very positive person and always had a smile no matter the circumstances. She devoted her life to her high school sweetheart and husband until his death in 1997. Marilyn never missed a family party, graduation, birthday, wedding or cookout. She was always a mother first and was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends. Marilyn will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Marilyn was the beloved wife of the late Samuel "Dick" R. Boyson, also known as "Big Sam". Loving mother of Stephen Boyson & his wife Karen of South Dennis, Scott Boyson & his significant other Patricia Varney of VT, and Kimberly Bertazzoni & her significant other Anthony Maloney of Melrose. Proud grandmother of Crystal and Cody Boyson of VT, and Nicholas and Danielle Bertazzoni of Melrose; and great-grandmother of Aleah. Predeceased by her brothers Ralph Hendy and William Hendy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved dog Benny. Funeral Services will be held privately. A Celebration of Life will be announced in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn's name to the Melrose Veterans Relief Fund, c/o Veterans Services, 201 West Foster St., Melrose, MA 02176.
