Marion E. Kanaly passed away on Thursday morning, Janaury 16, 2003 at the German Center Nursing Home in West Roxbury at the age of 79. Marion was a long time resident of Melrose, graduated from St. Mary's Grammar and High school prior to attending college at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Terrace Haute, Indiana with a B.A. in English. She received her B.S. in Library Science from Columbia University, was a professional librarian at Wellesley College for over twenty years. She received a Doctrine in Ministry from Andover-Newton Theology School, and was employed as a hospital chaplain at Lutheran General near Chicago. Returning to Melrose after eight years in Illinois, Marion was actively involved with St. Mary's Ladies Sodality, was an Eucharist Minister and Lector at St. Mary's. She was prominent in the Church Women United Program and several other and religious organizations. She was the daughter of the late Thomas J. & Elizabeth G. (Guiney) Kanaly. Sister of Thomas Henry Kanaly & his wife Bernadine of New Bern, NC. Also survived by several cousins. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday Jan. 20th at 10:30AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church Herbert St. Melrose at 11:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8PM. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lawrence.
