Marjorie A. (Ryan) Butler, of Melrose, died at the Chelsea Soldier's Home on Jan. 15, 2015 at the age of 93. Marjorie was born & raised in Malden, a graduate of Cheverus School in Malden and went on to attend Fashion Design School. She served her country in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII and worked as a Secretary for the Dept. of Elder Affairs for many years before her retirement. Marjorie resided in Melrose since 1951, was a member of the Melrose D.A.V and life member and Past Commander of the Melrose American Legion Post # 90 and also of the Malden American Legion Post #69. She loved to travel to Palma DeMallorca in Spain, Puerto Rico for 30 years, Las Vegas, Russia, Ireland, and England. Marjorie enjoyed music events, playing bingo and was always very social. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald F. Butler for 54 years. Loving mother of Barbara Vanaria & her husband Donald of RI, Cheryl Butler of Melrose and the late Michael Butler. Cherished grandmother of Kerry Butler of Melrose. Caring sister of Leo Ryan of NH, Helen Eggleston of Melrose, Virginia Ryan of Malden and the late Ann Chisholm, Sr., Mary Josita Ryan, SP, Regina Rauseo and Alberta Langley. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 20th, 2015 at St. Michael's Chapel at the Chelsea Soldier's Home 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea at 11AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours prior to the Mass from 10-11AM. Burial at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Charity of your choice.
