Marjorie “Marge” Downey, 83, of Peabody, MA, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026.

Born in Revere in 1942 to Joseph and Florence Coyle, Marge attended Revere High School where she graduated in 1960. She went on to become a successful Insurance Agent at Child Genovese, where she was a loyal employee for over 10 years.

Marge was no stranger to taking risks. She was an avid card player and a passionate traveler. Above all, she was a family woman. She was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Powers and Barbara Mastrullo. She laughed through life alongside her beloved husband J. Gerard Downey. Marge was the proud mother to the late Richard Doucette and is survived by her daughter Robin Leary and husband Michael. She was a loving grandmother to Meghan Leary, Michael and his wife Alison Leary, and Patrick Leary.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster Street, Melrose on Saturday, January 31st from 9:00 - 10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary's Church , 4 Herbert Street, Melrose at 11:00 am.

Interment to follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
